SOP: Sampling and Sample Preparation — Spices

GIFSQ — Global Institute for Food Safety & Quality

Principle

The way in which a sample is taken for analysis is an operation in order to make representation of all the basic attributes of the commodity. Correct sampling requires most careful attention to reduce the genesis of error during analysis. It shall be the basis for reliable results representing properties of the whole.

Sample preparation technique

Grind laboratory sample as quickly as possible in a grinding mill to pass sieve with 1 mm diameter aperture. Avoid undue heating of apparatus during grinding. Mix carefully to avoid stratification (layering). Store in a dry stoppered container (FSSAI, 2016).
