Price the product you give away for free: when the average pack weight sits above the target, every pack carries extra product. Enter the target and actual weights, the run size and the product cost to see the giveaway in kilograms and dollars.
Try sample values — fills the form with the worked example below.
Method: Giveaway analysis for checkweighing: the mean weight above target is product shipped without payment. The cost is the direct material cost of that extra product — labour and packaging are not included.
Assumptions: the mean weight is a representative average across the run; the target is the declared pack weight; the cost per kilogram is the product cost only.
Limitations: a mean below target is underfill, not giveaway — this tool flags it as an error because underfill is a labelling and legal-compliance problem, not a cost problem; the spread of individual pack weights also matters for legal minimum-weight rules.
Rounding: giveaway per pack to 2 decimal places; percentage to 2 decimal places; total and cost to 2 decimal places; intermediates unrounded.
This is a calculation aid, not a laboratory report — confirm against your accredited method before citing a value.

A 2% giveaway on a high-volume line is often worth more than a filler service visit — check the filler setting before accepting it. Tool 347 of 500 — GIFSQ
