Plan a stabilizer pre-hydration slurry: the water needed at your water-to-stabilizer ratio, the total slurry weight and the water as a share of the batch.

Try sample values — fills the form with the worked example below.

–
Hydration water (g)
–
Total slurry (g)
–
Water as % of batch
Equation: Hydration water (g) = stabilizer (g) × water ratio. Slurry (g) = stabilizer + water. Water as % of batch = water (g) ÷ batch (g) × 100.
Method: Stabilizer pre-hydration: dry stabilizers are dispersed in a portion of the batch water before adding to the mix, at the water ratio and temperature on the supplier data sheet. The hydration water is part of the batch water, not extra water.
Assumptions: the ratio is parts of water per part of stabilizer by weight; the hydration water comes out of the formula water.
Limitations: the ratio that fully hydrates one stabilizer may leave another lumpy — temperature, shear and time matter as much as the ratio, so follow the supplier procedure.
Rounding: weights to 1 decimal place; percentages to 2 decimal places; intermediates unrounded.
This is a calculation aid, not a laboratory report — confirm against your accredited method before citing a value.
Worked example: 500 g of stabilizer at 20 parts water per part: water = 500 × 20 = 10,000.0 g; slurry = 10,500.0 g, which is 10.00% of a 100 kg batch.

Enter values above to see results.

Take the hydration water out of the formula water — do not add it on top, or the batch will be too wet. Tool 211 of 500 — GIFSQ
