High-risk share (%)
–
Weighted risk index (1–3)
–
Low-risk share (%)
Equation: Low-risk count = total − high-risk − medium-risk. High-risk share (%) = high-risk ÷ total × 100, and likewise for medium and low. Weighted risk index = (high × 3 + medium × 2 + low × 1) ÷ total.
Method: Raw material hazard assessment per ISO 22000:2018 clause 8.5.2.2 (assessment of raw materials, ingredients and product-contact materials) and the supplier and raw-material risk requirements of FSSC 22000. The 3-2-1 weighting is the tool’s stated rule, not a scheme requirement.
Assumptions: every material is classed exactly once as high, medium or low risk; the class comes from the hazard analysis, not from the price or the supplier.
Limitations: the index summarises the register — it does not replace the per-material hazard assessment, and a single high-risk material still needs its own controls whatever the index says.
Rounding: percentages and the index to 2 decimal places; intermediates unrounded.
This is a calculation aid, not a laboratory report — confirm against your accredited method before citing a value.

Worked example: 40 materials: 6 high, 14 medium, 20 low: high-risk share 15.00%, medium 35.00%, low 50.00%, index (18 + 28 + 20) ÷ 40 = 1.65.

Review the register when a supplier, origin or specification changes — a new origin can move a material between risk classes. Saved on this device only. Tool 249 of 500 — GIFSQ
