Protein concentration of a plant protein slurry. Enter the powder, its protein content and the water to get the protein mass, the slurry concentration and the water needed for a target.
Try sample values — fills the form with the worked example below.
–
Protein in slurry (g)
–
Protein concentration (%)
–
Water to add for target (g)
Equation: Protein = powder × protein % ÷ 100. Concentration % = protein ÷ (powder + water) × 100. Water to add for a target % = protein ÷ (target % ÷ 100) − (powder + water), or 0 if already at or above target.
Method: Mass balance for a protein slurry; protein content by AOAC 992.15 (Dumas) or AOAC 984.13 (Kjeldahl) on the powder specification.
Assumptions: All powder disperses in the water; no protein is lost; water weighs 1 g per mL.
Limitations: Concentration is not functionality — solubility, viscosity and flavour need their own tests.
Rounding: Masses and percentages to 2 decimal places. Intermediate values are not rounded.
This is a calculation aid, not a laboratory report — confirm against your accredited method before citing a value.

Worked example: 100 g powder at 80 % protein with 400 g water, target 10 %. Protein = 80.00 g; concentration = 80 ÷ 500 × 100 = 16.00 %; water to add = 80 ÷ 0.10 − 500 = 300.00 g.
Enter values above to see results.
Check the protein content on the powder specification — pea and soy isolates are often 80–90 % protein, concentrates are lower. Tool 176 of 500 — GIFSQ
