Formulate a plant-based milk batch. Enter the base ingredient, water, oil and sugar to get the batch composition and the scale factor for a target batch size.

Try sample values — fills the form with the worked example below.

–
Total batch (kg)
–
Base ingredient (%)
–
Scale factor for target
Equation: Total = base + water + (oil + sugar) ÷ 1,000. Each share % = ingredient ÷ total × 100. Scale factor = target batch ÷ total; multiply every ingredient by it.
Method: Formulation mass balance for plant-based milks. No Codex standard covers plant-based milks, so composition targets come from the product specification.
Assumptions: All ingredients are fully incorporated; masses add with no loss; oil and sugar are in grams.
Limitations: Composition is not stability — emulsion, sediment and flavour need their own checks; nutrition values need the ingredient data sheets.
Rounding: Masses and percentages to 2 decimal places; scale factor to 2 decimal places. Intermediate values are not rounded.
This is a calculation aid, not a laboratory report — confirm against your accredited method before citing a value.
Worked example: 1 kg oat, 9 kg water, 50 g oil, 100 g sugar. Total = 10.15 kg; oat = 1 ÷ 10.15 × 100 = 9.85 %; oil = 0.49 %; sugar = 0.99 %. For a 20.30 kg batch the scale factor is 2.00.

Enter values above to see results.

There is no Codex standard for plant-based milks, so the composition targets come from the product specification. Use food-grade oil and check the emulsion after mixing. Tool 177 of 500 — GIFSQ
