Packaging Specification Generator

Interactive Tool Free Resource

GIFSQ Tools · Module 10 — Packaging & Shelf-Life · Tool 192 of 500

Generate a packaging specification verdict: enter the measured film and seal values with your limits, and get a pass/fail for each check and the overall compliance.

Try sample values — fills the form with the worked example below.

–
Checks passed
–
Checks in total
–
Compliance (%)
Equation: Each check passes when the measured value is inside its limit: WVTR ≤ maximum, OTR ≤ maximum, seal strength ≥ minimum. Compliance (%) = checks passed ÷ checks in total × 100. The specification passes only when every check passes.
Method: Packaging specification check combining ASTM F1249 (water vapour), ASTM D3985 (oxygen) and ASTM F88 (seal strength) results against the limits in your own product specification.
Assumptions: the measured values and limits are at the same test conditions; limits come from the product specification, not from this tool.
Limitations: a passing specification does not prove the pack will hold up in distribution — drop, vibration and storage tests are separate.
Rounding: compliance to 2 decimal places; counts are whole checks; intermediates unrounded.
This is a calculation aid, not a laboratory report — confirm against your accredited method before citing a value.
Worked example: WVTR 5 (limit 10), OTR 2 (limit 5), seal 40 (minimum 30): all three checks pass, so compliance is 100.00% and the specification passes.
