Summarise a package integrity check: leaks, seal failures and visual defects across the packs checked, with the overall pass rate and defect rate.
Try sample values — fills the form with the worked example below.
–
Defective packs
–
Defect rate (%)
–
Pass rate (%)
Equation: Defective packs = leaks + seal failures + visual defects (each pack counted once, under its worst defect). Defect rate (%) = defective ÷ checked × 100. Pass rate (%) = 100 − defect rate.
Method: Package integrity summary combining leak testing (ASTM F2096), seal strength (ASTM F88) and visual inspection into one lot verdict.
Assumptions: each defective pack is counted under one defect type only; the checked packs are a fair sample of the lot.
Limitations: the dashboard summarises what was checked — it cannot catch defects the checks miss, and a small sample can hide a real problem.
Rounding: rates to 2 decimal places; counts are whole packs; intermediates unrounded.
This is a calculation aid, not a laboratory report — confirm against your accredited method before citing a value.

Worked example: 200 packs checked with 3 leaks, 2 seal failures and 5 visual defects: defective = 10 packs; defect rate = 5.00%; pass rate = 95.00%.

Set the acceptance limit in your quality plan; a common action limit is 5% defective for a routine lot check. Tool 198 of 500 — GIFSQ
