Check how full a pack is from the product weight and the pack capacity — fill ratio, free capacity and the headspace share.
Try sample values — fills the form with the worked example below.
–
Fill ratio (%)
–
Free capacity (g)
–
Headspace share (%)
Equation: Fill ratio (%) = product weight ÷ pack capacity × 100. Free capacity (g) = capacity − product weight. Headspace share (%) = 100 − fill ratio.
Method: Fill-weight check against the declared pack capacity. Use the same units for both weights; the tool converts to grams.
Assumptions: capacity is the weight of product the pack is designed to hold; both weights are on the same basis.
Limitations: weight fill says nothing about volume fill — a light, bulky product can fill the pack at a low weight ratio; net-weight rules are set by the labelling law, not this tool.
Rounding: fill ratio to 2 decimal places; free capacity to 1 decimal place; intermediates unrounded.
This is a calculation aid, not a laboratory report — confirm against your accredited method before citing a value.

Worked example: 400 g of product in a 500 g pack: fill ratio = 400 ÷ 500 × 100 = 80.00%; free capacity = 100.0 g; headspace share = 20.00%.
Enter values above to see results.
Check the fill target in the product specification; under-filling a declared weight breaches net-content rules. Tool 186 of 500 — GIFSQ
