Work out energy and nutrients per serving from per-100 g values, with Atwater factors — the arithmetic behind a nutrition facts panel.
Try sample values — fills the form with the worked example below.
–
Energy per 100 g (kcal)
–
Energy per serving (kcal)
–
Protein per serving (g)
Equation: Energy (kcal per 100 g) = 4 × protein + 9 × fat + 4 × carbohydrate + 2 × fibre. Per serving = per-100 g value × serving (g) ÷ 100. Energy (kJ) = kcal × 4.184.
Method: Atwater general factors (4/9/4 kcal/g, fibre 2 kcal/g) per EU Regulation 1169/2011 Annex XV and Codex CXG 2-1985; US FDA 21 CFR 101.9 and Health Canada Food and Drug Regulations B.01.401 use the same 4/9/4 factors. For a full printable label, use the GIFSQ Nutrition Facts Label Maker (gifsq.com post 92189) — this tool does the panel arithmetic, that tool builds the label.
Assumptions: values entered are per 100 g as analysed; fibre is part of total carbohydrate; sodium is elemental sodium, not salt.
Limitations: Atwater factors are averages — a laboratory analysis or a food-composition database gives the true values; alcohol (7 kcal/g) and polyols are not included here; rounding rules differ by jurisdiction.
Rounding: energy to whole kcal; nutrients per serving to 1 decimal place; intermediates unrounded.
This is a calculation aid, not a laboratory report — confirm against your accredited method before citing a value.

Worked example: Protein 10 g, fat 5 g, carbohydrate 20 g, fibre 3 g and sodium 200 mg per 100 g, serving 40 g: energy = 40 + 45 + 80 + 6 = 171 kcal per 100 g, 68 kcal per serving, protein 4.0 g per serving, sodium 80 mg per serving.

Sugars are shown for reference; they are already part of total carbohydrate, so they are not added again to energy. Tool 361 of 500 — GIFSQ
