Equation: Powder (g) = batch volume (L) × powder per litre (g/L). Plates = batch volume (mL) ÷ volume per plate, rounded down to whole plates. Expiry day = prepared day + shelf life in days.
Method: Media preparation per ISO 11133:2014 (preparation, production, storage and performance testing of culture media): the powder is weighed from the label rate for the batch volume, and the batch is dated with its preparation day and shelf life.
Assumptions: the powder is fully dissolved and the volume is the final made-up volume; a little volume is always lost to pouring, so the plate count is a maximum.
Limitations: the register records the batch — it does not check the pH or the growth-promotion test, which the method requires before the batch is released.
Rounding: powder to 2 decimal places; plates and expiry day are whole numbers; intermediates unrounded.

Worked example: A 2 L batch at 37 g/L, 20 mL per plate, prepared day 100 with a 30-day shelf life: 74.00 g of powder, 100 plates, expiry day 130.
