Track cookie texture from duplicate diameter readings and the baked thickness: mean diameter, agreement between the two readings, and the spread ratio.
Try sample values — fills the form with the worked example below.
–
Mean diameter (mm)
–
Range between readings (mm)
–
Spread ratio
Equation: Mean diameter = (diameter 1 + diameter 2) ÷ 2. Range = |diameter 1 − diameter 2|. Spread ratio = mean diameter ÷ baked thickness.
Method: Duplicate-measurement practice for the cookie spread check of AACC 10-50.05 (Baking Quality of Cookie Flour): measure two cookies from the same bake and compare them before reporting a single spread value.
Assumptions: both cookies come from the same dough and the same bake; thickness is measured at the centre of a representative cookie.
Limitations: two readings show agreement, not the full batch variation — for a batch decision, measure at least five cookies and use the mean.
Rounding: mean diameter and range to 1 decimal place; spread ratio to 2 decimal places; intermediates unrounded.
This is a calculation aid, not a laboratory report — confirm against your accredited method before citing a value.

Worked example: diameters 58 mm and 62 mm, thickness 6 mm. Mean diameter = 60.0 mm; range = 4.0 mm; spread ratio = 60 ÷ 6 = 10.00.

Two readings within 2 mm of each other show a consistent bake. Typical spread ratio: 8–12. Tool 112 of 500 — GIFSQ
