Wise Wife Ground Cinnamon Recalled for Potential Elevated Lead Levels
What was recalled
SLR Food Distribution Inc. of Hicksville, New York, is voluntarily recalling Wise Wife Brand Ground Cinnamon because it has the potential to be contaminated with elevated levels of lead. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration published the company announcement on October 29, 2026. The recalled cinnamon comes in a 110 g (3.88 oz) clear plastic container with a black screw-top cap, and the Best Before date is 4/25/2027. Its UPC is 0688474302754, printed on the back label. No lot code is stated in the announcement, and no recall class is stated in it either, so this post does not guess at either one.
Where it was sold and how it was found
The cinnamon was distributed to retail stores and grocery stores in Connecticut, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin between September 8, 2025, and June 28, 2026. The recall started after a sample collected and analyzed by The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station revealed elevated levels of lead in the product. No illnesses have been reported to date, according to the announcement. The announcement also notes that short-term exposure to very low levels of lead may not elicit any symptoms, and that increased blood lead levels may be the only apparent sign of exposure. Its effects depend on the amount and duration of exposure, as well as the age and body weight of the person exposed.

SLR Food Distribution Inc. has started the recall and is notifying customers to stop distribution and sale of the affected product and to remove it from store shelves. Customers holding remaining inventory are being instructed to place it on hold and follow the company’s recall instructions.
