365 Whole Foods Market Ashwagandha Capsules Recalled for Potential Salmonella Contamination

What was recalled

Vitality Works Inc. of Albuquerque, New Mexico, is recalling one lot of 365 Whole Foods Market Standardized + Full Spectrum Blend Ashwagandha Capsules 120 count because the capsules have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration published the company announcement on October 30, 2026. The recalled lot is lot number 2025-26227. The capsules come in white plastic bottles labeled as 365 Whole Foods Market Standardized + Full Spectrum Blend Ashwagandha 120 count, with UPC 9948252099. Both the lot number and the expiration date of 10/13/2028 are printed on the bottom of the bottle. No recall ID is given in the announcement, and no recall class is stated in it, so this post does not guess at either one.

Where it was sold and how the problem was found

The recalled capsules were available for purchase from November 24, 2025, through October 20, 2026, both online through Amazon.com and at Whole Foods Market stores in Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming, as well as the District of Columbia. The potential contamination was identified through routine sampling of a single retail unit. No illnesses have been reported to date, according to the announcement. The announcement notes that Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems, while healthy persons infected with Salmonella may experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, the announcement adds, infection can result in the organisms entering the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis.

What to check on the bottle in your home

Turn the bottle over and compare the lot number and expiration date on the bottom against lot 2025-26227 and 10/13/2028, along with the UPC 9948252099. Only the bottle that matches all of those details is part of this recall.

What to do

If you have the recalled product, do not consume it. The announcement says customers should discard the recalled product and not return it to the store, and that refunds are available at any Whole Foods Market store. Anyone with questions can contact Vitality Works Inc. at (505) 268-9950, Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mountain Time.
