Sliced meat is meat that has been pre-sliced from the joint and packaged for sale, the deli counter and the chilled cabinet’s staple. It covers cooked hams, roast beef, turkey breast, and salamis, cut to uniform thickness by machine and packed in modified atmosphere or vacuum to extend shelf life. The convenience is obvious: no slicing skill needed, consistent portions, long chilled life. The trade-offs are texture, which suffers from compression and storage, and the additives, salt, and water content of some processed lines. For food safety, sliced ready-to-eat meats are a Listeria risk, so use-by dates and cold storage matter. Good sliced meat, from a proper joint, remains one of the simplest good lunches.
