A highly purified, colourless mineral oil of high boiling point, used in food processing as a release agent. Designated E905, it prevents dried vine fruits such as raisins and sultanas from sticking together during handling and packing, applied as an extremely thin coating. Only food-grade, highly refined grades are permitted, and strict purity criteria exclude the aromatic compounds of concern in cruder oils. Regulatory limits control how much may be used, and its presence must comply with labelling rules. The application illustrates how even familiar dried fruits may carry approved processing aids invisible to the consumer.
