A person who follows a vegetarian diet that excludes all animal flesh, including meat, poultry, and fish, but includes eggs and dairy products such as milk, cheese, and yoghurt. This is the most common form of vegetarianism in Western countries. The inclusion of eggs and dairy makes it relatively easy to obtain complete protein, vitamin B12, calcium, and other nutrients that can be challenging on stricter diets. Lacto-ovo-vegetarians cite health, ethical, environmental, or religious reasons for their choice. Food manufacturers and restaurants routinely cater to this diet, and nutritionists consider it capable of meeting all nutrient needs when well planned with varied plant foods.
