A gravity feed slicer is a type of food slicer — the familiar deli machine — in which the product carriage sits on a sloping tray, so the meat slides down toward the rotating circular blade by gravity after each slice is cut. The operator guides a ham, roast beef, or cheese block down the incline, adjusting thickness with a dial, while the blade shaves off uniform slices. The gravity design gives smooth, consistent feeding with less operator effort than a manual horizontal carriage, improving slice uniformity and speed. Like all slicers handling ready-to-eat foods, it must be stripped, cleaned, and sanitised meticulously between products — the blade, carriage, and food-contact surfaces harbour residues — and operators need cut-resistant gloves and training.
