Garlic salt is a seasoning blend of table salt mixed with dried, powdered garlic — typically around three parts salt to one part garlic powder, sometimes with anti-caking agents. It offers the convenience of salting and garlic flavour in a single shake, popular for seasoning meats, chips, garlic bread, popcorn, and savoury snacks. Because the garlic is already distributed through the salt, it seasons more evenly than adding the two separately. Cooks should remember it is mostly salt: substituting it for plain salt without adjusting quantities easily oversalts a dish. Commercial blends vary in garlic strength, and gourmet versions may use sea salt or roasted garlic. It keeps indefinitely if kept dry.
