A fluid bed dryer is an industrial drying apparatus in which a bed of solid particles is suspended — fluidised — by a stream of heated air blown upward through it. The cushion of air keeps every particle surrounded by hot gas, giving rapid, uniform drying with gentle handling and good mixing at the same time. Operators control air temperature, velocity, and residence time to reach the target moisture content without overheating heat-sensitive material. The equipment is widely used in food processing for drying grains, cereal products, granulated sugar, salt, instant coffee and tea powders, milk powder granules, spices, and animal feeds. Compared with static tray drying, fluid bed drying is faster and more even, and the same vessel can often cool the product afterwards by switching to ambient air.
