A coprolith is a hardened mass of faecal matter lodged in the intestine or rectum, resulting from severe, prolonged constipation. As stool sits in the colon, more and more water is absorbed until it forms a stone-like lump that normal bowel movements cannot shift, causing pain, bloating, and sometimes overflow diarrhoea around the blockage. Treatment ranges from enemas and manual removal to laxative regimens, with prevention through fibre, fluids, and activity. It is most common in older, immobile, or dehydrated patients and those on constipating medications. The condition shows how seriously constipation can escalate if neglected.
