A burrito is a Mexican dish consisting of a large flour tortilla wrapped around a filling, typically including meat, beans, rice, cheese, and salsa. Unlike tacos, the tortilla fully encloses the filling, making it portable. Originating in northern Mexico, it was popularised in the United States, where oversized mission-style burritos became a fast-food staple. The combination of cereal, legumes, and animal protein can provide a balanced mix of carbohydrate, fibre, and complete protein, though large restaurant versions are often very high in calories, fat, and sodium. Regional variations range from simple bean burritos to breakfast and seafood styles.
