A rubber spatula is a kitchen tool with a flexible head, traditionally of rubber and now usually heat-resistant silicone, mounted on a handle. Its soft, pliable blade scrapes bowls clean, folds delicate batters without knocking out air, stirs sauces, and spreads mixtures evenly. Unlike a metal spatula, it will not scratch non-stick coatings or delicate bowls, and its flexibility reaches into the curved corners where a stiff tool leaves batter behind. Heat-proof silicone versions withstand stirring hot custards and caramel. Every baker relies on it: the last scrape of chocolate batter from the bowl is a small ritual, and the tool that performs it is the rubber spatula, equally at home folding egg whites and smoothing frosting.
