Eutrophia is a normal state of nutrition — the body adequately nourished, neither deficient nor excessive. It is the nutritional counterpart of euphagia’s normal eating: intake matched to need, tissues supplied, growth and maintenance proceeding as they should. Like its eu- cousins, the word is more conceptual than clinical — medicine measures the departures, deficiency and excess, more often than it names the healthy middle. But the concept matters as the target: every recommended intake, every fortification programme, every dietetic care plan aims at eutrophia, the state where nutrition supports health without drawing attention to itself. It is the quiet equilibrium that public-health nutrition chases at population scale — everyone adequately fed, no one harmed by too little or too much.
