Cell division is the process by which a cell reproduces itself, producing two daughter cells. In growth and tissue repair this occurs through mitosis, where chromosomes are duplicated and evenly distributed; in reproduction, meiosis halves the chromosome number for gametes. The cycle is tightly regulated, and failures in control lead to cancer. In food science, cell division matters in fermentation, where yeast and bacterial multiplication drives brewing, baking, and yoghurt production, and in food safety, where the binary fission of pathogens determines how fast contamination becomes dangerous. Temperature, nutrients, and pH govern the rate in every case.
