Bradyuria is the medical term for abnormally slow or hesitant urination, where the flow starts late, proceeds weakly, or takes an unusually long time to complete. It differs from dysuria, which is painful urination. Causes include prostate enlargement in men, urethral narrowing, bladder muscle weakness, neurological conditions, and side effects of medications such as anticholinergics. While not directly a nutrition term, it appears in clinical nutrition contexts when fluid balance, diuretic use, or hydration status is being assessed in patients. Persistent bradyuria requires urological evaluation, as it can signal obstruction or incomplete bladder emptying with infection risk.
