Consultant: Baseline Market Survey of Large-Scale Food Fortification (LSFF) - Helen Keller Intl Nepal
Helen Keller Intl Nepal is hiring a consultant to run a national baseline market survey of large-scale food fortification (LSFF). Nepal has near-universal access to iodized salt, but fortification quality, compliance with wheat flour fortification standards and edible oil fortification still need verified market evidence, and this survey creates the baseline for future monitoring and policy.
What the consultant will do: agree the design with DFTQC, the Salt Trading Corporation, FNCCI and WFP Nepal; confirm the 15 survey districts and sample 3 sites and 3 retail outlets per district (135 outlets nationally); collect salt, wheat flour and edible oil samples with unique sample IDs and run on-site iodine and iron spot tests; coordinate laboratory testing with NFFRL and ZEST (iodine titration, iron, folic acid and vitamin A analysis, including HPLC for oils); and analyse compliance rates, including iodine levels against the 30-50 mg/kg standard, batch and pack-size variation, non-STC salt findings and border leakage, and equity of access across district types. The assignment ends with a dissemination workshop and a costed design for a sustainable national LSFF market monitoring scheme.
Terms: three months, deliverable-based, based at Helen Keller Intl’s Nepal Country Office with field travel. The full Terms of Reference are linked from the vacancy announcement.
How to apply: email a detailed CV, a two-page technical and financial proposal, and samples of previous relevant work to Nepal.procurement@hki.org by 13 November 2026, 5:00 PM Nepal time (NST).
