Trucks
Motor vehicles used to transport foods from processors and farms to distribution centres, retailers, and catering outlets — the workhorses of the food supply chain. Refrigerated trucks are the backbone of the cold chain, carrying chilled and frozen products over long distances: insulated bodies, calibrated refrigeration units, and — increasingly — continuous temperature logging prove the cold chain was never broken. Sanitation of cargo areas, correct loading for air circulation, and pre-cooling before loading are essential practices; a single temperature-abused truckload can compromise the safety and shelf life of tonnes of perishable food. Fleet maintenance, driver hygiene, and segregation of incompatible loads complete the quality picture.
