Thermometers
Instruments that measure and display temperature. The classic design — a graduated glass tube of mercury or alcohol that expands when heated and contracts as it cools — has largely given way to digital probes in professional use, but the principle is unchanged. Food thermometers are purpose-built: confectionery thermometers track sugar-boiling stages that define texture, meat thermometers verify doneness at the thermal centre, and monitoring thermometers watch freezers, refrigerators, and ovens. Accurate, calibrated temperature measurement underpins every food-safety and quality decision, from validating a cook step to proving the cold chain held.
