Syagrus
Syagrus is a genus of palms whose fruits and seeds serve human needs. The fruits of some species are used as food, eaten fresh or processed, and the seeds are a source of palm oils similar to coconut and palm-kernel oils. The best-known member is the queen palm, widely planted ornamentally. Like other palm oils, Syagrus oils are rich in saturated fatty acids, and their extraction and refining follow the standard palm-oil processes. The genus illustrates the palm family’s remarkable generosity as a source of food, oil, and fibre.
