Sunfish

Sunfish is a name applied to a variety of freshwater and marine fish. It particularly refers to North American freshwater fish of the genus Lepomis, such as L. macrochirus (bluegill sunfish), some of which are popular food fish with sweet, white flesh. It also refers to the large marine species Mola mola, the ocean sunfish, the world’s heaviest bony fish, which is eaten in some Asian cuisines but is not a mainstream food fish. Context decides which sunfish is meant, and responsible sourcing matters for both groups.
