Springboks
Springboks are the African gazelle Antidorcas marsupialis, hunted — often under controlled culling programmes — to produce springbok meat. The managed harvest supplies fresh venison and biltong while keeping herd numbers in balance with the rangeland, linking wildlife management directly to food production. Carcasses enter the food chain through game abattoirs or approved field-slaughter systems with veterinary inspection, where hygiene, rapid chilling, and traceability are enforced much as for farmed meat. It is an example of sustainable use of wildlife where science-based quotas protect both the herds and the habitat.
