Shredding
Shredding is tearing or cutting foods into thin strips (shreds), done by hand, with a grater, or with a food processor’s shredding disk. Shredded cheese melts evenly, shredded cabbage ferments into sauerkraut, and shredded vegetables cook quickly in stir-fries. Uniform shred size matters for even cooking, consistent texture, and attractive presentation. It is one of the most common knife and machine skills in kitchens. It is basic but essential kitchen craft. Sharp tools make it safer and easier. Even pieces cook evenly and look better.
