Sharon fruit
Sharon fruit is an alternative name for the persimmon, specifically the non-astringent varieties grown in Israel’s Sharon plain. Eaten firm like an apple when ripe, it is sweet with a honeyed flavour. Like other persimmons it is rich in fibre and carotenoids, and it must be fully ripe, or a non-astringent type, to avoid the mouth-puckering tannins of unripe fruit. It is a popular winter fruit in many markets. It is at its best chilled and sliced. A delightful winter treat.
