Private labels
Products manufactured by one company but labeled as a store brand, sold under a retailer’s own name rather than the manufacturer’s brand. Private-label foods span every category from canned vegetables to premium ready meals, and retailers set the specifications, packaging, and quality standards while contracting production to third parties. For manufacturers, private-label work offers volume and efficiency; for retailers, it builds loyalty and margin. Food-safety responsibility is shared: the brand owner must verify that the contract manufacturer operates under sound HACCP systems, and traceability must clearly link the retail brand to the producing plant.
