Permethrin
Permethrin is a non-systemic synthetic pyrethroid insecticide that controls many insect pests of fruit and vegetable crops, and it is also used against biting insects in animal rearing establishments. It acts on the nervous system of insects while having relatively low toxicity to mammals, and the World Health Organization classifies it as moderately hazardous. In food safety, its relevance centers on residue management: maximum residue limits are set for treated crops, and monitoring ensures that residues in harvested produce stay within legal tolerances. Observing approved application rates and pre-harvest intervals is essential so that pest control does not compromise the safety of foods reaching consumers.
