Nylon
Nylon is the family name for synthetic polyamide plastics, strong and elastic materials that span the range from flexible films to tough, rigid mouldings. They can be melted and shaped into sheets, fibres, bristles, and containers, and they shrug off greases and oils that would weaken other plastics. In food packaging, nylon films serve in pouches and boil-in-bags, prized for oxygen barrier, puncture resistance, and the heat tolerance needed for retort sterilization and sous-vide cooking, often laminated with polyethylene sealant layers. Food-contact grades must respect migration limits for caprolactam and related monomers, ensuring the package protects the food without becoming a source of contamination.
