Muskmelons

Muskmelons are fruits produced by Cucumis melo, with yellow or green skin bearing a raised network of a lighter shade. The flesh is green to orange, comprising mainly water but with high levels of sugar, vitamin C, and carotenes, and it is eaten as a dessert fruit. Also known as netted melons or nutmeg melons, the group includes Galia melons and cantaloupes. As with other melons, the netted rind can harbor soil and pathogens, so it should be washed and scrubbed before cutting to prevent transfer of Salmonella or Listeria to the flesh. Cut melon must be refrigerated promptly and eaten within a few days.
