Lepiota
Lepiota is a genus of agaric fungi (Agaricaceae) that includes a number of edible species — typically small to medium mushrooms with scaly caps and white spore prints — such as the parasol-like Macrolepiota relatives. Identification demands genuine expertise, because the genus also contains dangerously toxic species such as the deadly Lepiota brunneoincarnata and L. helveola, which contain the same amatoxins as the death cap and cause fatal liver failure. Only expert foragers should collect them; commercial supply must be traceable to identified, safe species, and all wild mushrooms should be cooked and eaten in moderation.
