Human milk substitutes
Formulas for feeding babies and young children instead of human milk, built to satisfy their particular nutritional needs — also termed infant milk formulas. They can be based on cow milk or soy milk, with adjusted protein, fat, vitamin, and mineral profiles to approximate human milk as closely as possible. Because they nourish a vulnerable population, their composition and manufacture face some of the strictest food regulations in existence, covering everything from nutrient minima and maxima to microbiological criteria and labelling. Safe preparation and storage instructions are part of that regulatory framework.
