Hemp
Hemp is the common name for Cannabis sativa cultivated for fibre, seed and food uses, legally distinguished from drug-type cannabis by very low THC content. Parts of the plant serve the food industry: hemp seeds are pressed for edible oils rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids and used whole or ground like cereals in breads, bars and porridges, while flowers and inflorescences flavour beer-type beverages in some markets. Regulatory status varies by country, with food use permitted where THC limits are met and enforced by testing. Nutritionally the seeds offer complete protein, fibre and minerals, driving their health-food popularity.
