GM foods
GM foods is shorthand for genetically modified foods, the products of genetic engineering in crops and ingredients. They sit at the centre of one of food’s fiercest debates, with supporters citing yield and nutrition gains and critics demanding long-term safety proof. Regulation is a patchwork: some regions require labelling and traceability, others treat approved traits as substantially equivalent. For traders, the paperwork matters as much as the science, since a shipment legal in one market may be barred in another.
