Gauges
Gauges are the devices that quantify and visibly report amounts, levels or contents, from pressure dials on retorts to sight glasses on storage tanks. Food plants rely on them for process control: steam pressure, tank levels, vacuum and temperature all read out on gauges that operators check against critical limits. Calibration keeps them honest, since a drifting gauge can mask a failing process. Digital displays increasingly replace dials, but the function stays the same. Auditors check calibration stickers during inspections as a matter of routine.
