Foliar sprays
Sprays that deliver fertilisers or plant growth regulators onto crop leaves. Foliar feeding delivers nutrients directly to crop foliage for rapid uptake, supplementing soil fertilisation. Residue limits and pre-harvest intervals must be observed when sprays are applied to food crops. Micronutrients such as zinc, iron and boron are commonly applied foliarly to correct deficiencies visible in leaf tissue, with surfactants improving leaf wetting and uptake. Timing relative to harvest is regulated through pre-harvest intervals that ensure residues decline below maximum limits, and drift management protects neighbouring crops and watercourses.
