Fluorodensitometry
A technique, often combined with TLC or HPLC, where an analyte’s concentration is worked out from its fluorescence. Used in food and contaminant analysis for sensitive quantification of separated compounds such as mycotoxins, vitamins and pesticide residues on chromatographic plates. After TLC separation, plates are scanned under UV and the fluorescence intensity of each spot quantified against standards — a classic, low-cost route to aflatoxin and ochratoxin results in grain laboratories. HPLC with fluorescence detection extends the principle to automated, high-sensitivity mycotoxin and vitamin analysis.
