Elks
Large northern deer (Alces alces) of the deer family (Cervidae); wild elks are hunted for their meat, which is sometimes called venison, and the name is also loosely applied to the North American moose. In some countries elks have been domesticated to produce meat and milk. Elk farming in countries such as New Zealand, Canada and Sweden supplies venison under controlled conditions, with handling, transport and slaughter welfare standards paralleling those for deer. Milk from domesticated elk is produced on a small scale, valued in niche dairy markets for its rich composition.
