Dried figs
Dried figs are the fruits of Ficus carica from which most water has been removed, usually by sun drying, concentrating their natural sugars into a chewy, sweet snack. They are a rich source of dietary fibre and iron, with high levels of calcium, potassium, magnesium and polyphenols, while remaining low in sodium and free of fat and cholesterol. Eaten as snacks or ingredients, they require protection from moisture and insects during storage to prevent spoilage. Bakers chop them into doughs and fillings where their sweetness and chew add interest.
