Cycloserine

Cycloserine is a broad spectrum antibiotic with strong activity against Mycobacterium species, employed against mycobacterial infections such as tuberculosis in animals. It has no approved function as a food production aid, so residues in meat, milk or eggs would break regulations, and veterinary drug monitoring programmes test animal products for unauthorized substances. Keeping medically important antibiotics like cycloserine out of the food chain is a core aim of responsible stewardship in agriculture. Farmers and veterinarians must observe withdrawal periods and prescription rules so that treated animals never enter the food supply with residues.
