Cell lines
Cell lines are established collections of cells which can be cultured indefinitely and which usually have specific properties that can be exploited in scientific research studies. Food scientists use them to study nutrient uptake, toxicity of contaminants and natural toxins, and host-pathogen interactions, providing controlled, reproducible models that reduce the need for animal testing. Well-characterized lines with documented origins are essential for credible results, and they are shared between laboratories under careful quality control. Cryopreserved master stocks preserve their identity, preventing the drift that ruins experiments.
