Carbadox
Carbadox is one of the antibacterial drugs used as growth promoters in animals, particularly pigs. Residues may persist in meat from treated animals, which raises consumer-safety concerns. Because of evidence of carcinogenicity, its use has been restricted or banned in several regions, and where it was permitted, strict withdrawal periods and residue monitoring applied. It illustrates the tension between production efficiency in livestock farming and the demand for meat free of drug residues, a balance regulators continue to weigh. Its regulatory history is often cited in debates over antimicrobial use in livestock production.
